So you are thinking about starting a house cleaning business! Congratulations!
Here are the top 5 reasons people choose to do so:
They Need the Money
The first reason why people start a house cleaning business is that they need the money. That’s why we all go into business: we need the money.
We have bill collectors that expect money at the end of every month. And we all want to be able to pay our rent and the bills. Food needs a way to get on the table and we all need gas in the car. To do these things, we have jobs to make money.
This is real and is reason number one.
We Need Money Fast
The second reason why people start a house cleaning business is that somehow, the money ran out. And we need money fast.
House cleaning is unlike other jobs.
You might have to go to college for a couple of years. And then you might have to go through training and go through an internship. Then you may get a job as a beginner or assistant or something like that, and you get a little bit of money.
Then you might work your way up the ladder and you get a little bit more money. And then maybe five years down the road, you get the money you need to pay your bills.
With house cleaning, you can get the money fast. And by that, I mean in a couple of days or a week.
So you start a house cleaning company. You hang out a shingle, you tell your friends, you advertise on social media, you run a few flyers. Boom! You have clients. And the nice thing about needing money fast is a house cleaner, we get paid every day.
You do a job, you get paid. You do another job, you get paid. It’s beautiful, and that’s why people start house cleaning businesses.
I Can Do This!
The third reason why people start a house cleaning business is that they wake up one day and the possibility of being a house cleaner becomes real.
If it’s not real to you, it’s not a possibility. But then you wake up one day and you’re like, “Wait a second. I could be a house 
cleaner. I’ve been cleaning house my whole life. I know how to wipe down cabinets. I know how to mop floors and run the vacuum cleaner.”
It seems like a possibility. You can do this. And the semantics of it, maybe you don’t know yet.
But the possibility, “Oh, yes. I could make a schedule, I could advertise, I could go clean peoples’ houses.”
And you start small, and you go and you get one house a day. Then as your skills improve and you create systems, and you get better at what you do and you get more training.
Then you add two houses. And then you add three houses. Then you add an employee. And then the two of you run the houses, and you build this small business.
It becomes a reality to you. And you know it becomes a reality when that passion ignites. When you get that little spark of excitement like, “I could do this!”
The Flexibility of Scheduling
The fourth reason why people start a house cleaning business is that they need flexible scheduling.
There are a bunch of professions or side hustles that have a flexible schedule.
There are parents that have kids that go to school during the day. They have to drop their kid off at school in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon. Or they need to be there when their kid gets off the school bus. So the parent must have flexibility.
But these parents could go clean a house during the morning or during the time that their kids are in school. And so it becomes a job that allows you to have the rest of your life in place. And have that organization and harmony in your life, but still, be earning a little bit of extra money.
So, it’s an awesome job for people like actors and actresses. They need a job where they can change their schedule last minute. If their agent calls and says, “Hey, can you be on set tomorrow?”
“Yes, I can.”
So then, you change your house cleaning schedule and you go take the acting job.
When you don’t have any acting jobs and times are kind of slow, then you go clean houses so you can still pay your bills.
It’s a Way to Earn Extra Money
The fifth reason why people start a house cleaning business is that they need to supplement their income.
They already have a job that has excellent benefits, but the house cleaning doesn’t. It’s just another way to earn some extra money.
So let’s say like baggage handlers at the airport, for example. They have excellent benefits but the pay is okay, it’s not that
great.
And so they can work another job when they are not working at the airport. They can go out and clean houses on the side and make enough money so that they can pay all their bills.
Or waiters and waitresses at restaurants, or maybe bartenders. They make a pretty good living, but they only work in the evenings. And so, during the day from like 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m., they have this big window of open time.
And so they decide they’re going to go clean houses as an extra way to supplement their income. Because during the night they’re on a set schedule.
