Question: Your Face on Printed Ads or Company Van?

Your Face on Printed Ads, Woman Thinking“Do you think it’s a good idea to put my face as the owner in my advertisement?

I want to grow my cleaning company. I don’t know if wrapping my car with my face will get in the way, or I should just do a stock photo like everybody else does. Your advice would be appreciated.

Again, thank you, and thank you for all the great podcasts and videos that you put out there for people like me who struggle to get past a plateau. Thank you again very much.”

Should You Put Your Face on Printed Ads?

Your Face on Printed Ads, Realtor AdShould you put your face on the side of your car, or in your advertisements as a good business move? My suggestion to you is no, and here’s the reason why.

We see this a lot in real estate.

There are realtors that will put their face on the front of the signs that are outside the houses that they’re selling.

But a lot of the pictures are 5, 10, 15-years old, and they don’t look like the person that’s actually selling the house.

Now, I know we’re trying to create some face, name, brand recognition, that kind of thing, and that is the reason why we have logos.

Be Careful About the Face You Associate with Your Brand

Your Face on Printed Ads, Cleaning Lady With DusterIf you have a parked car in front of a house, I don’t want your face on it for several hours a day. Yes, it creates a brand association, but what happens when you expand your business?

Now you have five or ten different employees, and they don’t look like you. And the customer wants to hire the face that’s on the side of the car. But now you’ve locked yourself in to being a one-man show.

And so, you want to use your logo to market your cleaning business

Your Face on Printed Ads vs. Social Media

Your Face on Printed Ads, Man Taking SelfieNow, the good news about social media is you can update your picture every day if you want. There’s actually a guy I know that does this. He updates his profile picture every day.

It’s funny because that’s probably overkill. But you can update your online photos as much as you want. Instead of having a 10-year old headshot that doesn’t look like you anymore, you can update your picture on a regular basis.

Now if people want to hire you, and they see a cleaning car in their neighborhood – they will check out your social media advertising.

When they look you up they will see your face on printed ads online.

And you can have an entire page on your website dedicated to the team behind your company.

You can use that in your marketing, but I would not put it in printed ads, and I would not put it on the side of your car for that reason. You don’t want to lock yourself in.

Your Face on Printed Ads Locks You into Outdated Ads

Your Face on Printed Ads, Woman Getting Long HaircutIf you spend a lot of money on advertising, yard signs, auto wraps, and business cards the information will stay the same for a while. But your face will change. Your hairstyles will change. You will gain or lose weight. And rarely do we look the same as long as our printed ads are in circulation.

You have long hair – then summer comes and you cut it – now you don’t look like your photos of two weeks ago.

So, for house cleaning, I don’t recommend it at all. I’m sure you have a lovely face, and I’m sure that when people see if they would want to hire you, but I don’t want you to lock yourself in.
