Coaching and Development team meetingToday’s question comes from a business owner. “Do you conduct weekly or monthly coaching and development meetings with your staff?”

Answer: Coaching and Development for Cleaning Employees

Coaching and Development cleaning suppliesThe answer is yes.

As the business owner, it is your responsibility to make sure that everyone on your front line is ready to go. You want them to be ready to be face to face with your customer.

Imagine you going to someone’s house and not doing an inventory of your products.

Then you get to the customer’s house, and you run to your car, and you pull out whatever you can find. It might be a half a jar of this and a half a jar of that. Maybe there’s some cleanser that’s half dumped over in your car. There’s an old, moldy mop.

You’re not going to do that, right?

You want to set yourself up for success by doing a proper inventory of what you have. You’re going to make sure you have enough of all necessary supplies.

If you do a pre-wetting system, you want to have all your towels and rags pre-wet. You will be ready to rock and roll so that you are ready for success for that day.

Same Rules Apply to Employees – Ready for Success

The same rules apply to the people that you send out into the field. The people that work for you are the tools of your business.

They are more valuable and more important to you than a mop, than a broom, and all your cleaning supplies.

This person is face to face with your customer. When your employees arrive at the beginning of the day, you want them to be ready and feel prepared.

We All Have Things Going on

Coaching and Development Woman sad about divorceWe all come from different walks of life. So there’s a variety of things that are happening in any of our lives at any given time.

Somebody may be going through a divorce. They may have ill children. Their parents may be sick or may have come to visit. There may be family issues going on. There may be money problems. If your house cleaners show up having a bad day – it’s your job to be the buffer between them and the client.

Who knows what’s going on? But there’s always something.

Cleaning Coaching and Development

Coaching and Development syringeIt is your job and your responsibility as a manager to motivate your employees. And make sure that everyone is playing on the same page.

Does everyone know how to solve problems in a manner that reflects back on you as an organized company?

Are all the people that work for you trained with hazardous materials? Do they know how to read Safety Data Sheets? If they come in contact with bodily fluids or something like a syringe, do they know how to deal with that?

Do they know how to get rid of dirt and muck that’s at the bottom of a bathtub or a shower floor?

Do they know what kind of chemicals are they going to use?

There needs to be some kind of training that is consistent across the board.

Attitude Coaching and Development

Coaching and Development promoting serviceThere’s got to be attitude training every single day.

Every day, you have to put these people in a positive frame of mind. So when they are out in the field, they are promoting your business, not bringing your business down.

Because you don’t want them taking their personal life baggage to the customer’s house.  You don’t want them spewing that to the customer. The customer is going to end up thinking, “Wow, that house cleaner’s exhausting to be around. Ha, at least she does a great job cleaning my house.”

This might lead to the customer switching cleaning companies. They will hire someone that has the same level of skills, but with fewer problems. Their employees will be happier and well adjusted.

Coaching and Development Every Step

Coaching and Development happy house cleanerSo, yes, there needs to be coaching and development and effective ways to motivate your employees.

Because yes, we are cleaning people’s homes. But we’re also in the business of changing people’s lives. That’s the life of our customers and the life of our employees.

Yes, it is your responsibility to manage your business. That is your job. It is to manage your business, and along with that is managing your employees.

And you do that through coaching and development meetings.

So, yes, it’s something I recommend.

Anyway, that’s my two cents for today. So, until we meet again, leave the world a cleaner place than when you found it.
