Home Security
People take their home security very seriously and you should too. Remember that a person’s home is usually their most valuable asset and they want to protect their privacy, and stuff.
Home security is the responsibility of every house cleaner. If a client gives you a key to their house (an actual key) keep it in a secure place at all times. If anyone steals, copies or uses that key to get in the house, you will be liable.
If a client gives you an alarm code, ask if they will create one just for you. Most home security alarm systems allow for a “house cleaner” code to be programmed, so you are only responsible for access into the home with that specific code — during the time when you are authorized to be there cleaning. Like a key, you will want to guard that code.
Do yourself a favor and keep the code in a locked app on your phone like KEEPER for protected passwords that only you can access. If your smart phone goes missing that last thing you want is for your contact list to get out, with lots of home alarm codes programmed in next to client’s addresses. Please don’t do that.

We now live at a time where home security cameras are affordable to everyone. People install home security cameras for different reasons including the ability to watch their home alone teenagers, pets left alone all day, and the possibility of intruders…as well as hired help like nanny’s and house cleaners.
You have to assume when you clean that you are being watched at all times from every angle. Some people have visible cameras, while others hide cameras in all sorts of
gizmos like coffee pots, cell phone chargers, speakers, plugs, outlets, carbon monoxide units, books, silk plants, and electronic looking gadgetry.

Don’t let it bother you that there may be hidden cameras everywhere. Let it empower you. If you are thorough and you don’t cut corners, and you do what you are hired to do – and your clients watch you on their home security cameras, every job you do will cement the value they are receiving.
Think of it like you are an actor, and you are on a reality TV show where the world is watching. Maybe they are watching you and maybe they are not, but you have to assume they are.
Don’t let stupid “caught on camera” actions get you fired – rather let the “caught on camera” moments outshine other house cleaners they’ve ever had.
