Ask a House Cleaner DIY Question Spacer Savvy Cleaner

Question: Spring Cleaning in July? Booyah!

Today’s question is a little bit unique.  Somebody wants to know: “Can I do spring house cleaning during the summer instead of the spring.”

Ask a House Cleaner Answer Spacer Savvy Cleaner

Answer: Spring Cleaning in July? Booyah!

Yay! I love this question. Yes, you can!

Spring Cleaning in the SpringSpring Cleaning buckets with soap suds and broom

There is a purpose of having spring cleaning at the end of the winter time. Lots of people (depending on where you live,) have cabin fever from being inside all winter.

And it’s time for you to get out and enjoy the spring. And with the spring is new life. Grass starts growing. And the trees burst into bloom.

You hear butterflies and birds. And there’s just this feeling of “yes, let’s start everything over and new again.”

And along with that comes the spring cleaning.

You Can Do Spring Cleaning at Any Time of the Year

So, it doesn’t have anything to do with spring at all.

Spring cleaning is where you go through your house and pull everything out.

Let’s say that you have kitchen cupboards then you just shoved stuff in all year. This is the time of year when you want to pull everything out of those cupboards and wipe the cupboards down. And look at the dishes, and say “Did I use these dishes this year?”

Spring Cleaning You don't need 30 coffee mugsSpring Cleaning is a Time to Declutter

Do you need 30 coffee mugs? Because if they’re only two people in the house a drink coffee, maybe you only need two or four mugs.

You may not, so get rid of the excess that you do not need.

That’s what spring cleaning is all about. It’s about making choices and going through and eliminating the clutter from your life.

Spring Cleaning is a Time to Deep CleanSpring Cleaning You don't all those almost empty shampoo bottles

So, a deep clean is not your regular routine cleaning.

It is not just wiping off your bathroom vanities. It’s climbing underneath that bathroom sink and pulling everything out.

And ask yourself why do I have 15 bottles of shampoo that only have this much in the bottom? Am I ever going to use them? If it’s the same kind of shampoo, grab a little funnel and start consolidating.

Let’s get rid of all those extra bottles of shampoo because you don’t need them.

Spring cleaning usually includes things like defrosting your freezer or refrigerator. And going through your attic. And pulling out old boxes of things that you’ll never use again.

The Weather Is Perfect in Spring for Spring Cleaning

Spring is a good time to clean the attic. It is not a hundred degrees outside (which means it would be 115 in your attic). Super-hot and not convenient.

But in that cool crisp early days of spring, that’s the time to climb up in your attic when it’s 60-70 degrees up there. You can pull all that stuff out and you can sort through it.

You can reorganize all your or your Christmas tree ornaments and holiday decorations. And things that you stored up there. It is a good time to do these things.

Spring Cleaning Can Be in the Summer

But there’s nothing stopping you from doing a deep clean any time of the year. It’s going to depend on your schedule.

Now, let’s say you’ve been in school all spring. And its now summer and you have a little bit of free time. I know this is true for a lot of school teachers.

They will do their spring cleaning in June or July because now they have the free time since they have the summer off.

So, there’s no shame in doing your spring cleaning in July or August or September or whenever.

Spring Cleaning Over Christmas BreakSpring Cleaning Can Be in the Winter

I know people that do their spring cleaning during their holiday break. There are 10 days between Christmas and New Year’s that they might be on vacation.

They have all this time where they can do some things in their house. They can declutter, touch up paint in their house, wash windows, fix things, etc. It’s just a good time for them to get some things done around the house.

Spring Cleaning Can Be Whenever Is Convenient for You

So is there any reason you can’t do spring cleaning at some other time of the year? There’s no reason at all. It’s up to you and your schedule.

Make a List

So, if you would like to do a deep cleaning yourself, I would recommend making a list. Put everything that you want to get done on that list.

And then check things off the list as you go. If there are things that you’re not good at or need help with, you could hire an outside person to help you.

Consider Hiring Outside HelpSpring Cleaning includes calling handman to fix broken things like a washer

It could be a neighborhood kid that maybe just has a little bit of manpower that can help you move boxes.

It might be that you’re cleaning out your garage. And you need somebody that has the strength to move all your garden tools and go through everything. Or hang some racks for you so that you can hang up your equipment.

This might be a good time for you to hire some outside help. There are a lot of handymen who will help you with household chores or tasks. They might have some equipment or skills that you don’t have.

And instead of you buying all the tools and the equipment they have all that stuff that they can help you with.

Consider Hiring a House Cleaner

Also, if you need deep cleaning, it’s a great time to hire a house cleaner. They have all the skills and they’re trained to do a deep clean. They can clean all the baseboards and clean inside all your cabinets. And defrost your freezers and your refrigerator and clean your oven. They can also help you pack your winter clothes back in the closet and all these things.

So, this might be a great time to hire a little bit of extra help, even if you don’t hire someone the rest of the year.

It’s okay if you hire people for one-off cleanings or one-off handyman projects. There are lots of people who just do one-time jobs.

Spring cleaning any time of the year is fine, do it when you have the time.

And that’s my two cents worth.
So until we meet again, leave the world a cleaner place than when you found it.
