Watch: Nextdoor to Get More House Cleaning Leads
Hey there, I’m Angela Brown, and this is Ask a House Cleaner. This is a show where you get to ask a house cleaning question, and I get to help you find an answer.
Question: How Do I Use Nextdoor to Get More House Cleaning Leads?
Today’s question comes from a house cleaner who’s looking to market her business. And she’s looking for some word-of-mouth referrals. And she wants to know “How do I use the Nextdoor app?”
Answer: Here’s How to Use Nextdoor to Grow Your Business
Okay, so I love Nextdoor.
Nextdoor has brought me more business than I’ve ever seen from anyone referral app. And furthermore, I love Nextdoor.
So, if you don’t know about Nextdoor – http://nextdoor.com
Create An Account On NextDoor.com
Most of all, you can create an account on your computer or smartphone. Look for the Nextdoor app in your smartphone store.
It’s a neighborhood app where you create an account and type in your address.
It pulls up your neighborhood and it says: “Oh, we know your neighbors. Do you know so and so?” So, you click “yes, I do”. And it links you to those neighbors.
Now, you have a whole neighborhood of people that you live near. And you can refer things back and forth to each other.
So, let’s say for example that you are looking to hire a house cleaner. You can go on Nextdoor and say “ISO” which means “In Search Of” a house cleaner and it will pull up the neighborhood that you live in.
So, let’s say that you live in the Averly neighborhood. The app sends a message to all your neighbors with your request.
Now your neighbors can jump in with recommendations for a house cleaner or maid service.
You Can Find Recommendations – ISO
They say “Oh, my house cleaner is Susan Peterson. And here’s Susan’s phone number. And her prices are reasonable, and she’s reliable, and I like her for all these reasons.”
Now anyone in the Averly neighborhood can see that referral and they can call Susan Peterson for house cleaning, too.
Nextdoor connections bleed over in the neighborhoods on each side of, and nearby you. You can get referrals from several neighborhoods if you like.
If you are a Homeowner you can leave a recommendation for your plumber, your painter, or your sprinkler repairman. You can leave reviews about your dog walker, or your pet sitter or babysitter. Or your kid’s guitar teacher, dentist or soccer coach. The possibilities are endless.
Pay it Forward With a Positive Review
You can leave a referral. And all your neighbors have access to that. It’s completely free it’s an awesome tool.
But here’s what happens; It’s like paying it forward. It’s like blessing the life of the person who’s come in and blessed your life.
Because when you post a positive review on the neighborhood app it’s social proof. And the service provider is going to get a whole bunch of business from people who need that same service.
Here’s How Nextdoor Works
Here’s a perfect example; I have a leak in my roof.
One day it just started leaking for no reason and I had to get a little garbage pail and had to put it under the leak. And then, of course, every time the rain would fall I could hear the drip. That annoyed me. And I had to put a little towel on top of the pail so that it would hit the towel and it wouldn’t make the noise.
So, I went on Nextdoor and I said I’m in search of a roof repair guy.
And I found someone who said; “I have a little leak in my roof. I don’t need a whole new roof I just need somebody to come over and fix the hole because I have a leak when it rains.”
And I was like “me too, that’s me too.”
Okay, so, by jumping on the app we were able to find referrals from our neighbors.
A recommended repair guy texts: “I fix small leaks in roofs. Because you both live in the same neighborhood I’m going to come over and I’ll give you both a discount. Because I’ll come on the same day.”
Pair Up With Neighbors Who Need the Same Service
Ask the recommended house cleaner or maid to come to your house the same day they clean the neighbor’s house.
This prevents the housekeeper from driving all over town to various cleanings.
Get A Discount When You Refer Your Service Providers
Lots of service providers have a referral program. Some of them give you a discount, or a referral fee when hired from a referral you posted.
House Cleaners want to work in the same neighborhood. You can help them do this by leaving a review. It helps you too because you’ll see fewer cancellations from your maid. They are working in your neighborhood. From the referrals you gave them.
And as a homeowner, this is how you guarantee that your house cleaner stays your house cleaner. If your house cleaner feels appreciated, they will be loyal and take good care of you and your home.
So, if you’re new to Nextdoor – http://nextdoor.com
As a House Cleaner How Do You Use Nextdoor?
Unless you work in your own neighborhood, signing up won’t do you much good as far as getting leads. So, it’s not about the neighborhood you live in – it’s about the neighborhood your clients live in.
Your goal is to get the most clients you can from each neighborhood you work in. This prevents travel time which cuts into profits.
So, ask your customers if they haven’t left you a review already. “Hey, is there anything I can do to improve my service?”
And if they say “No, you’re amazing.”
“Great. Is there any way you can jump on Nextdoor and tell your neighbors about me?” Ask them to post your name and phone number. So neighbors can call and text you, and hire you.
“Please Tell Your Neighbors About Me”
Also, you don’t want them to tell their friends because their friends live two miles, or ten miles away. You want them to tell their neighbors about you. Because their neighbors live nextdoor.
And when you’re done cleaning their house you want to go nextdoor, right?
So, it’s a beautiful way to pick up a whole bunch of new business.
NOTE: In order for this to work – you have to take great care to return all phone calls and texts. And when you make appointments, confirm them, and show up on time.
And that’s my tip for today.
