Hey there, I’m Angela Brown, and this is Ask a House Cleaner. This is a show where you get to ask a house cleaning question, and I get to help you find an answer. You can find this and 400 other answered questions in this series on our YouTube channel.

Should Your Business Have a Podcast?

Should Your Cleaning Buisness Have a Podcast, Man Arms Out, Why NotShould your business have a podcast? “You have a podcast, should my business have a podcast too?”

So should house cleaners have a podcast to grow and market their business? And the answer  would be, “Why not?” Because creating a podcast is free. And when you say free, it’s not free.

Nothing is free because it requires your time, your energy, your research, your delivery, and then also the delivery of the podcast itself. So it’s actually a whole lot of work, right?

Decide What Your Podcast is Going to Be

Should Your Cleaning Buisness Have a Podcast, Podcast AppsOne of the things you could do when you create a podcast, there’s nobody that’s giving you permission to create it. And there is nobody that’s taking your permission away. So if you decide to create a podcast, what will it be and how will you use it to grow your business?

So, what you might do is you might create a series of tips. How your business is different from other businesses and things that homeowners want to know. You might target it to a very specific group that your clients would benefit from. Now once you post a podcast, you can post it on a variety of different podcast apps. And now with the advent of the smartphone, every smartphone now has podcast apps.

So whether it’s Android or it’s iOS, you can make sure that your podcasts are distributed to the mass media. So if somebody has iTunes or they have Stitcher or SoundCloud or iHeartRadio or FM radio or Google Play, they can access your podcasts. It doesn’t cost anything to upload that information to the podcast apps that then broadcast your information.

Let Your Customers Know About Your Podcast

Should Your Cleaning Buisness Have a Podcast, Man Listening to PhoneSo what you could do is when you go to clean a customer’s house you can promote your podcast. You could say, “Hey, did you know that I started my own podcast? So while you’re going to work this week, would you do me the favor of listening to it and find out if my tips are on target?”

And then you give them the link and then hopefully they listen to your podcast on the way to work. What happens then is that it breeds confidence. And they say, “Wow, my house cleaner gave me five tips of ways I can spring clean my house while I’m stuck at home during the coronavirus.” Or whatever the terms are that you’re talking about for the day.

It could be spring cleaning, it could be cleaning a barbecue grill. It could be how to clean patio furniture, how to clean out an attic, steps that you take when you’re disinfecting a house.

Podcasts Don’t Have to be Long

Should Your Cleaning Buisness Have a Podcast, Woman Talking into MicrophoneThere are so many different topics to talk about. And your podcast doesn’t have to be long. How long should your podcast be? Podcasts don’t have to be an hour-long, they can be five minutes, they can be three minutes, they can be short snippets.

But what happens is you end up creating a little library of all the different tips that say, “I am an authority in the market.” And it boosts your visibility in the search engines. Then also it gives you information and content that you can repurpose.

So you can add a little post in your social media and say, “Hey, we dropped this new podcast, check it out.” And then people will click on that and you’ll get a lot more viewers.

What Happens When Your Podcast Starts to Grow

Should Your Cleaning Buisness Have a Podcast, Podcast on Phone on DeskOnce you have a variety of subscribers, what happens is you grow your podcast. So the secret is you have to do it over and over again. But what happens is people come to you and they say, “I would like to advertise on your podcast.”

So you’ve created a little bit of marketing that you’re pushing out into the universe. People will pay you to be on your podcast. So you can be making a little bit of extra money on the side while you’re sharing your tips and while you’re marketing your business. So you’re marketing your business, someone else is paying you to market your business. It’s amazing how that works

If you’re not doing it already, during this downtime, do some learning and growing your business. Because you are kind of quarantined and stuck at home during the coronavirus scare, it is giving you time to put together things like a podcast.
