Hey there, I’m Angela Brown, and this is Ask a House Cleaner. This is a show where you get to ask a house cleaning question, and I get to help you find an answer. You can find this and 400 other answered questions in this series on our YouTube channel.

What Do You Sell?

What Do You Sell, Confused Woman House CleanerWhat do you sell? And do your employees know what you sell and do your customers know what you sell? This is a very interesting topic, and this comes from a personal experience that I had yesterday. And I’m kicking myself because I, myself am guilty of this very exact thing I’m going to share with you.

My company Savvy Cleaner has a t-shirt line, and we’ve been selling t-shirts for about a year, and a half. And if you look underneath our YouTube show, those of you that are listening to this as a podcast may not know, but we also have this exact show as a YouTube show.

Underneath the YouTube show, before you get to the show notes down there, there’s a ticker tape and it has little t-shirts that are for sale.

You Have to Make Sure Everyone Knows What You’re Selling

What Do You Sell, Confused Woman Talking on PhoneSo, last week we decided to renovate the t-shirt line. So, we have all these new designs that we’re bringing to the market, and we advertised one of them on Facebook.

And it was interesting because I got a text from one of my top employees and they said, “Are we selling t-shirts now?” And I froze. I was like, “Well, I thought everybody knew because we’ve been selling them for about a year and a half.” And as I stopped, I realized I myself have fallen down on letting everyone the services that we offer.

So you need to ask yourself, do your customers and your employees and all the people that work with you, independent contractors, family, friends, do they know what you offer?

What Services Do You Offer Customers?

What Do You Sell, Woman House CleanerAnd this question has to be asked because a lot of us think we know.  Well, we clean houses. What does that mean? Do you do deep cleans, do you do move out cleans or do you not offer those services at all?

You need to know, the people that work for you need to know, and the clients that you have need to know. Because if they’re recommending you to do move out cleans, and you do not do move out cleanings, now they will look like a fool.

So, take a serious look at your business and figure out, do you have a list of the services that you provide?

Send Out an Email to Remind Everyone About Your Services

What Do You Sell, Two House Cleaners DisinfectingAnd if you have not reminded your friends, family, colleagues, peers, customers, and employees that you offer these services. Then it might be time to send out an email and say, “Hey, after the COVID and everybody’s staying at home, we’ve revamped our business a little bit. We wanted to let you in on all the services that we offer as of right now.”

I got a phone call the other day, and someone asked me, does my company offer disinfecting services? And it wasn’t my company Savvy Cleaner, it was their company. They wanted to know if I could tell them if they offer disinfecting services.

I don’t know, do you or not?” And so that was my question in return. “Tell me, do you offer them?” And they said, “I don’t know, do I?” And I said, “Well, I don’t know. You’re the business owner, you’re going to have to make that decision.”

A Decision has to Be Made on Your Services

What Do You Sell, Surprised Woman Looks at PhoneSo, a decision has to be made. Do you do deep cleanings? There are a lot of people that do not do deep cleanings, they only do maintenance cleanings. There are people that have asked the question, “Do I sell a service every three weeks to a client that wants every three-week cleaning?”

And so, as business owners, you get to decide the services and the packs of services and how you package the services to sell to your customers. You get to decide that as the business owner, but once you have that package in place, there are places you can list that like on Google.

Google has a whole place for Google business, where you can list the different types of services or products that you sell. And you can add a price and a link where people can click on it and go right to your website to order that package. So, if you have, move out cleanings, that is a package that should be listed on your Google business page.

List What You Provide on Your Facebook Page

What Do You Sell, Confused Man Talking on PhoneAlso. if you have a Facebook business page, they have a place also for services. You can list every pack of services that you offer on your Facebook business page. There are a lot of free advertising outlets and different platforms that allow you to market your business.

But you need to be clear about what it is you sell. So, I felt stupid. I was like, “Well, I assumed this since we have all these t-shirts and it’s up on our board every week in our alignment meetings. I assumed it was kind of common knowledge that everybody knew we sold t-shirts.”

Not so clear. So right now we are on a whole new program to reinvent that side of our business in a way that everyone knows that that’s something that we offer. They’re funny comedy t-shirts and they’re all about cleaning. They’re perfect for the house cleaner in your life. Or if you do your own cleaning and you want to say, “I’m the house cleaner in the family.”

Make Sure Your Customers Know and Understand What You Sell

What Do You Sell, Group of PeopleIf you offer to disinfect, this is something you want to make sure that your customers know and understand. Because there are a lot of house cleaners now that don’t.

And so moving after the COVID going back out into the workplace, there are going to be a lot of people that do offer disinfecting services that are going to get the referral or repeat business from that.

Meanwhile the regular maintaining house cleaning, that is maintenance cleaning, that’s all they’re going to do. And so, you need to let everybody know what it is you do offer and what it is you don’t. The clearer you are, the easier it is to sell and recommend you.000 Savvy Cleaner Spacer Bar 2020Resources
